Pimping your business

I am fascinated by how we unearth people that can help with your business. It really is a small world and a 6 degrees of separation type affair. I have worked hard to pimp myself with cost avoidance as I am more convinced than ever that certain types of businesses don't benefit from big cost outlays. I am hardly beating business of with a big stick just yet by any means but I am learning how to work smarter. What have you found about your marketing strategy?

Daily Express feature, Company Magazine feature and more...crazy

well, Tuesday 17 November has been a very productive news day for me. Was told last week that the Daily Express would be running a piece on me today but was not convinced this was going to actually happen. Went to the newsagents this morning and there I was on page 42 - was stunned I can tell ya. Then I had a call from BBC Coventry & Warwickshire who had seen the article asking if I would join in a radio interview on Friday 11 December at about 10am. THEN I was sent a link to details of the urban bakery on Company Magazine website on their City Spy section - amazing http://www.theurbanbakery.co.uk/?pageID=6

Have not taken it all in as all a bit surreal to be fair. Will let it all sink in and get back to you...

wee thoughts on marketing

to date I have spent no money on what I would call traditional advertising which has been more of a financial restraint more than anything as advertising in any guise is so bloody pricey - and a lot of it is so random and immeasurable as you have to have a good deal of time to assess if it really works and see patterns etc. This position forced me to look at who I know and ask who they know. I have spent a lot of time online looking at what people have to say about social media as one minute it is vital and the next it is being slated for not working. I personally think social media is vital as it is an updated communication, and I personally like having a gander at what other people are up too and their thoughts on things as every day really is a school day. I don't think the answer to any business is just sticking a 1/4 page in a mass distributed mag because of the numbers as we do need to think smarter and smaller to reach out audience. People are inundated with so much piffle that they tune out to most of it. Forest for the trees is a constant in my new working life so I am frequently turning to my friends for advice as sometimes being too close to things is a detriment...good honest feedback is priceless

to wedding fair or not to wedding fair...?

I have my 3rd wedding fair on Sun 8 Nov at Wroxall Abbey and am wondering what to expect from this one. Having only done 2 I cannot say I am an authority, but I am very skeptical as to wheter or not they will pay off. I came across so many people at the last two who only seemed to be there quaffing the free champagne and samples!
I will weigh up after this one if I will put myself up for anymore as I think my money, time and cupcakes could be better invested elsewhere. Be honest - how many of you have been to wedding fairs just for a day out?
